Tune in to KAJO 1270AM this Tuesday, December 18, at 9:30am to listen to the weekly talk show. SOS has been invited to talk about our recent recommendation that the County Commissioners begin the process of creating a Law Enforcement District. Swift action is needed in order to leave the door open to potentially bringing this to a vote of the County in May of 2013. Click HERE for the exact text of the SOS letter to the County Commissioners.
SOS has recommended the district to provide part of the solution towards restoring Josephine County’s criminal justice services. The district could potentially focus on funding the base level of services shared and needed by the entire County: The Adult Jail, District Attorney, Juvenile Justice, Court Security, and Animal Control.
As has been widely reported in the last week, the City of Cave Junction, the City of Grants Pass, and the Josephine County Commissioners are each scheduled to take independent actions on forming the new district next week. On Monday, Grants Pass and Cave Junction will each have to decide whether to be part of the district. Then on Wednesday the 19th the County Commissioners will have an opportunity to approve the initial order forming the district. This is just the start of the public process and there will be additional public hearings required at the County level next year before Commissioners decide whether the idea should be brought before voters.
