Notes From SOS Public Meetings 3-18-14 and 3-25-14

Good Evening SOS,

Fall seven times, stand up eight. – Chinese Proverb

Here are the notes from the past two meetings:

Saturday Market Stand Sign-Ups

We agreed that at the normal SOS Saturday Market Booth, as well as at any event SOS sponsors, we need to ensure that we have: 1) SOS Committee brochures, ie. MAT-C Opiate Awareness, Lottery Committee, etc.; SOS E-Mail Sign-Up sheet; SOS T-Shirts and the SOS Signs

It was agreed that due to the overwhelming political campaigning going on at the entrance to the Saturday Market, some coined as a political “gauntlet”, that SOS would refrain from any additional Saturday Market participation until after the MAY election!

Jail/Juvenile Justice Levy Committee Pat Fahey discussed the following committees:

  1. Communications Committee
  2. Fundraising Committee
  3. Phone Banking Committee
  4. Sign Committee
  5. IT Committee
  6. Campaign Literature
  7. Precinct Walking Committee
  8. Letter Writing Committee

IF you have questions that you have encountered regarding the upcoming levy, please forward them to Pat Fahey ASAP. Please, don’t be shy! pat@sosanitation.com

Connie Roach and Archie Lidey shall capture and ensure questions are posted and answered.

All of these questions and answers shall be placed on this committee’s FAQ page

SOS Secretary

Thus far we have had two people interested in this position; the group decided that we would like the interested to assure us of their attendance at the meetings and ask that they take notes at the next meeting (April 1, 2014); their note-taking skills will be evaluated and a secretary chosen; if you would like the opportunity of this position, please show up at next meeting and submit your notes afterwards; the meeting notes are posted once a week on our website; the Secretary chosen shall receive an electronic tablet, courtesy of Frank Morin, which shall be the Secretary’s to keep, with the only obligation to be a solid year of note taking at our regularly scheduled meetings.

SOS Radio

We are putting a presentation together for Carl Wilson; we decided that we would like to investigate the possibility of a weekly 1-hour SOS radio show, which would serve as a non-political platform for ideas to help us achieve our MISSION: “A citizen-voiced plan to provide for a secure, stable and sustainable Josephine County.”

Newman Church

YOU agreed to a donation from SOS in the amount of $250 to the Newman Church, for the use of their facilities; Holly Lidey shall be contacting Reverend Richard Fuss this week and presenting him with the donation; Holly shall also be asking for the office space Reverend Fuss offered us, so that we can store items SOS has collected in the past 18 months.

As our support and sponsorship continues, please be certain to forward electronic logos to our webmaster Gordon Edstrom @ gedstrom@gmail.com . We want thank our sponsors and to encourage our entire community to “shop local” and support each other.

Bill Ertel shall be providing a list at next week’s meeting for all to evaluate relative to local media contacts. If you know of a local media contact, please advise us then so that we can inform them of our upcoming events and efforts.

Lastly, stay tuned for two articles coming down the pipes—a Statistical article by Frank Morin and an article addressing opiate addiction and its’ deadly impact on a local family by K. David Smith.

Thank you all for staying committed to making our home a safe place to live!

MISSION: “A citizen-voiced plan to provide for a secure, stable and sustainable Josephine County.”
