SOS Meeting Notes – May 27, 2014

Again, great meeting Tuesday!

NOTES:

  • We discussed how we need community buy-in for whatever it is that we choose to do

  • We discussed that at the heart of our Mission should be commitment and that commitment should come from our community—we agreed that in our sessions with Travis Boersma over two years ago, when we were trying to come up with options after that levy attempt, Trust and Transparency was one of the major things we identified with respect to matter of importance! We agreed that we needed to have trust in our leaders and a transparent government.

  • Trust & Transparency Committee Resurrected!

Please VOTE and SOS meeting agenda for Tuesday – May 20, 2014

Good Evening SOS!

Please VOTE!

Bekah Lidey, age 8, wrote this Letter to the Editor, all by herself, which was proofread, corrected by her teacher, and submitted to the DAILY COURIER:

Vote Yes on 17-59. Why? Because if you don’t, then there will be no more jail and certainly no Juvenile Justice Center. Our Juvenile Justice Center has changed many lives. The jail is one of those things that keeps us safe.

If people are not willing to pay taxes then it’s lights out. I don’t know about you, but I certainly want to feel safe in my own town. If you can afford the taxes then why don’t you vote yes? I really cannot think of a good reason not to.

I want to be safe in a nice place. I want to live the rest of my childhood in a safe environment. Do you want to be safe and sound?

Special Note: Per the group’s decision, SOS will be having a meeting at the Wild River Brew Pub located at 533 NE F Street @ 7:45 PM on May 20, 2014. The meeting will be brief! We have the Pub until 10:00 PM!

SOS Meeting Notes – May 13, 2014

We had another great meeting on Tuesday!

Here are the NOTES  (Thanks Kay Smith!)

The levy is a bridge… It is not the permanent solution but it is a temporary one, from which we can build a permanent solution. There are kids out there that are being sexually and physically abused with no light to run to. Thank you for being that light. Thanks for being HOPE to them.

In recent recorded jail phone calls, the Josephine County Jail prisoners are heard preaching, that if the levy fails they will be let out. They are telling all of their friends to pass the word and VOTE NO on the levy. The Levy failure is their HOPE.

Please do not forget all of the things SOS is working on to achieve our GOAL: “A Citizen-voiced Plan to provide for a secure, stable and sustainable Josephine County.”

WHICH include:

  • Sobering Center
  • MAT-C (Medically Assisted Treatment Center)
  • Hard Rock Mining
  • Timber
  • Lottery Local Control
  • Justice of the Peace Court
  • BioMass
