Notes from the November 12th, 2013 SOS Public Meeting

We had another great Meeting Tuesday!  Bill Ertel led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Here are the notes:

·      Cliff Thomason unveiled a new SOS Wheel of Fortune (see Attached) this does not replace our Menorah, it enhances it! Great job Cliff!

·      Timber Committee Update Jim Frick; Jim reviewed recent timber sale contracts on county lands which netted us approximately $900,000, however, “reseeding” cost us $750,000; we asked Jim if the harvesting vs. “reseeding” was disproportionate and Jim said he would investigate that; Jim also indicated that we needed to begin to send letters to the Editor to put pressure on the BLM, who recently cut an approximate 300 feet swath of timber on the Highway, so that we can harvest and sell that cut timber, which is apparently, just sitting at a location decaying; Jim will be sending me a sample letter, which shall be posted on the SOS website Timber Committee webpage for all to get an idea as to what is needed; Josephine County Commissioner Keith Heck wanted the group to acknowledge the hard work of Vic Harris for the aforementioned timber sales!

·      Citizen-Voiced Plan Jay Meredith discussed how our plan to achieve our Mission: “A citizen-voiced plan to provide for a secure, stable and sustainable Josephine County.”  is slowly but surely coming together; Jay unveiled a Summary of all of our efforts which was quite impressive; that document shall be posted on our website this weekend!

·      Josephine County resident, musician and recent Victim Phil Newton, who won a Blues Tournament Competition recently in Eugene and the rights to compete Nationally in Memphis, Tennessee; he stopped by the meeting and reported how he had recently discovered his musical instruments were stolen out of his truck; Continue reading Notes from the November 12th, 2013 SOS Public Meeting
